Hi I’m Denise Urban, owner of The Write Cup Coffee Shop. Native Johnstowner. I love our community and I’m proud to say I grew up here. Our tag line at the coffee shop is “community.coffee.creativity.” All are welcome to pull up a chair and chat, work on your laptop and just chill out. Most any day you’ll see our baristas working on craft projects in between customers. This crew is the best and all artists in their own right.

I love our little town and have enjoyed giving back to the community by volunteering at various events such as the library’s haiku event “rain poetry” and Art Walk in the Park. I must say I’m proud of how the Art Walk in the Park has grown in just 5 years and at last count 2,000 plus people attended. Proceeds from the event are given to Stackhouse Park for maintenance and other needs. I also enjoy having local musicians and authors for book signings in the shop. We have so much talent in our community and I’m so inspired.

My love of coffee started early. When I’d visit my grandmother as a child, she’d sometimes make me a small cup of coffee which was diluted with lots of cream. Fond memories of sitting in my grandma’s kitchen sippin’ on a cuppa coffee on her little red metal step stool.

My fondness for writing short stories and poetry started me on the road to collecting vintage typewriters. Thus the name of the coffee shop, The Write Cup. You can see some of my “typers” on display at the shop.

I’m excited for the resurgence of downtown Johnstown. It does my heart good to see so many new small businesses springing up. It’s crazy to see all the family friendly events happening in the park. The shop sits directly across from Central Park and the view is the best. So I’d encourage everyone to come on in grab one of our seasonal drinks, chill and take in the view.

As a woman entrepreneur I am so grateful for the community’s love and support and I look forward to giving back to my hometown, Johnstown.
